CURRICULUM

The academic curriculum offered by Shabazz School is aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards and rigorous national and international assessments.  The alignment of the Shabazz School curriculum with rigorous standards ensures that your child will acquire the content knowledge, thinking skills and classroom experiences necessary to compete in college with students from anywhere in the world.

In addition, at Shabazz School your child will have daily access to and regularly complete assignments using classroom computers, mobile laptops and high speed internet connections. In addition, your child will receive instruction with the assistance of a Smart Board available in every classroom. Smart Board technology promotes dynamic whole class learning using a wide screen monitor that interacts with a computer. This allows your child’s teacher to make textbook concepts come alive in the class through the inclusion of video, audio, photos and online educational software, as well as makes it possible for your child to participate in distance learning activities with institutions and students from around the world.

The Shabazz School curriculum also incorporates culture and value based protocols into its daily instructional routines developed over the last 40 years by the Institute Of Positive Education’s highly successful New Concept Development Center. This model has shown that by integrating African culture, history and values throughout the academic curriculum and classroom environment, and by hiring loving and committed teachers, your child will develop the cultural pride and self-confidence required to achieve high academic results and to become a life long learner.
