There's a famous African proverb that states, "It takes a village to raise a child." Well, in today's economic environment, it can also be said, "It takes a village to fund the education of our children."

You may have heard through the media that Illinois is ranked 48th out of the 50 states in school funding. Consequently, it costs us more to educate our students than we receive in State funding. Everyday, this funding gap widens as the rising price of gasoline, health care and utilities continues to push the cost of textbooks, class supplies, employee benefits, student lunches and other education related expenses higher. As a result, each year, we must ask our Village community to support us financially so we can cover this difference.
